Poldark

Poldark is a British TV series ((So far there has been 1 season.)) based on a series of 12 books with the same name written by Winston Graham. It’s about a man returned from American Revolutionary War who finds his father dead, his estate ruined and his love interest soon-to-be-married to his cousin. He also has a strong sense for moral justice and for it he is willing to break a law.

I stumbled upon a show when searching for some great British series of 2015 on IMDb after finishing watching Peaky Blinders and later Humans, which I found both to be great shows. Like Poldark, there has been 1 season aired for Humans. For Peaky Blinders, there were 2. I finished watching Poldark season 1 with strong feelings but it wasn’t like this since the pilot episode (more like last 3 or 4).

At the middle of the season I was actually beginning to think this will ended up to be a soap opera. Fortunately I was mistaken since show turned more to social matters from than. I was also happy that women characters didn’t become stereotypical – being at home and taking care for children or crying all the time, but doing what they think was right (Demelza being a middle-man between Verity and Captaim Blamey, Elizabeth taking interest in mining).

I was quite impressed with the show so I decided to start reading novels on which show is based ((First book is only $4.14, e-book edition on Amazon.)). But I need to be careful there since I certainly don’t want to read spoilers. In fact long ago I discovered that for me it’s better to see the screen adaptation of a book first and than reading the book, which provides more story details. And it is easier to justify the plot changes/misses.
