Silicon Valley TV show

Silicon Valley

I feel way too late to the party but last Sunday I discovered a brilliant TV series called Silicon Valley. It’s about a tech start-up Pied Piper which tries to secure funds for its idea and along the way overcomes obstacles like creating the business plan, pitching the idea to investors, handling legal issues, growing the company with competent staff. So far I’ve finished the first season and I feel very confined I will finish with rest of them until season 4 premieres on April 23 in 3 weeks. 😀

It’s an interesting show because I’ve been following this scene for a long time since I also work in tech industry. They are real issues of start-ups presented in a humorous way. One of its creators is Mike Judge who also did a movie Office Space back in 1999, a comedy about unhappy employees working in tech corporation, which I greatly enjoyed.

On a personal note about start-ups, I don’t like the idea of “borrowing” money from the venture capitalists because then you have less and less control of your company and you are thinking about exit strategy all the time. It’s also my perception that when startup secures a funding it goes on spending spree letting emotional side of the brain overcome rational one.
