kdenlive is very capable video editor

Lately I’ve been interested in creating videos and editing them. Because I use Ubuntu 98 % of the time, I use kdenlive for a latter and I am very impressed with its capabilities. Because one does not expect a software that complexity to be free. I think what impressed me the most was how easy it is to render final video without having to choose various output parameters and outcome video’s quality is great.

This weekend I made first video montage with orders from other people. They had 3 clips, that had to be joined together and titled. A cover title, credits title and dedication title were also added. I also applied transitions between clips both video-wise and audio-wise for a smoother viewer experience.

I also have to say kdenlive frustrated me a little from time to time. It crashed 2 times in 2 hours of editing. The next pain point was adding a new title between clips which already had a transition applied. Because I had to separate them (destroy transitions and reapply). Also, it’s very hard to center title and kdenlive doesn’t help you by locking the element to center when you move drag across it. But I take into account that kdenlive provides more efficient way and I haven’t discovered them yet.
