KDE Connect is probably the most useful day-to-day software for me. It’s a set of software that lets you connect your Android phone with your desktop on Linux (in my case Ubuntu). With it you can do lots of useful things. You can:
- transfer files between phone and desktop, in both directions.
- mirror notifications from one device to another. For example notifications about arrived phone calls and SMS to your desktop or displaying notification about completed download from desktop to phone.
- find your phone from desktop if it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi.
- browse files on your phone from desktop.
- see phone’s battery level.
- use your phone as a remote to play/pause media on desktop or as a substitute for mouse/keyboard.
It can be installed via PPA below.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/indicator-kdeconnect
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install indicator-kdeconnect
